Cardiff Airport

Parking Flying started here in the 1940's when the Air Ministry requisitioned the land for a training base for RAF pilots.

In the 1950's civilian flights to Dublin started. The facility was greatly developed in the 1960's when it's control passed to civilian hands and short haul flights to France as well as Ireland where part of the scheduled flights. By the early 1970's the runway had been extended and a control tower and terminal built.

In the 1980's the advent of cheap holidays to the Mediteranean saw a big increase in the number of flights and by 1992 the 50th anniversary of flights from the site, saw passengers numbers increased to around three quarters of a million.

Since then there has been further development with flights to over 60 destinations and passenger number now approaching 2 million annually.

The facility is located 12 miles to the west of the city centre. Access is via the A4232 at junction 33 off the M4.
