Edinburgh Airport
The first civil flights from this airfield started with an Edinburgh to London shuttle in 1947. Prior to that there had been a military airbase
known as RAF Turnhouse on the site and it's grass airfield was used in both world wars.
In the 70's BAA took over the running of the facility and a new terminal was opened in 1977 and improved in 2001. Recently a new £19 million southeast pier terminal extension has been opened increasing the number of boarding gates to 20 and reducing the number of passengers that have to board aicraft via a bus from the terminal.
The complex is situated within easy reach of the Borders, Tayside, Fife, and Aberdeenshire, 7 miles west of Edinburgh city centre off the A8.
