Luton Airport
Luton Airport is situated approximately 30 miles North of London.
The facility opened in 1938 as a result of a descision taken by Luton Corporation to build it. During the War it housed RAF fighter planes and after the war civilian flights continued, by 1985 a new international terminal was opened. Shortly afterwards the airport had a change of name to "London Luton Airport".
Passenger numbers continued to grow with the birth of low cost airlines, with easyJet chosing Luton for it's first flights. A major extension to the terminal was opened in 2005. Over 6 million passengers a year now fly out of the facility. With 20 airlines, serving over 60 destinations worldwide. It is now the UK's sixth busiest airport.
When traffic is free flowing the Luton complex is approximately 5 minutes from the M1 at Junction 10 then 15 minutes from the M25 and 30 minutes from North London.
For foot passengers there is a coach shuttle service that connects with Luton Airport Parkway Station. The complex offers a wide range of facilities, ATM's, bureau de change and plenty of popular shops and places to eat. Disabled facilities and access are excellent. There is also a chapel and left luggage facilities.
