Prestwick Airport

Parking Aircraft first flew at the site of Prestwick Airport in 1913, but it wasn't until the 30's that there was some development of the site and it was used as a base for pilot training.

With the advent of the war because of it's location on Scotland's western Ayrshire coast it was used as an air bridge to the United States. Aircraft where also built on a factory at the site by Scottish Aviation Ltd until quite recently.

In the 50's there was some development and during the 60's the facility had a new terminal and control tower built. It was also in the 60's that one of the airport's most celebrated events happened when Elvis Presley briefly landed there en route to Germany, his only visit to the UK.

The complex now handles 20,000 flights and over 2 million passengers annually.

It is located near to Prestwick town centre and 32 miles from the center of Glasgow, access is from the A79. It has it's own railway station and there are regularly connections from Glasgow Central.
